Day 13 - The pink scarf

Ceci a commencé avec le portrait d'une amie, mais en cours de route, le visage a pris un air amérindien. Aimant bien le résultat, j'ai amplifié certains traits et finalement gardé la nouvelle version. . Il me semble qu'elle a du vécu.

It started with the portrait of a friend, but the drawing was looking more and more  like an indian.  I decided to amplify certain details and keep the latest version..  She seems to have led a hard life.

Day 12 - Sketch of Mr R

Si peu de temps pour dessiner aujourdhui!  Il y a des jours comme ça...  J'ai décidé d'utiliser le  fusain, chose que je ne maîtrise pas et de faire un sketch rapide en me concentrant juste sur le visage, surtout les yeux.

So little time for drawing today! ....  I made a sketch  using some charcoal, something I'm not so familiar with and concentrate on the face, mostly the eyes.  

Day 11 - Texto, texto!

Je n ai pas encore de telephone intelligent, mais la plupart des gens que je connais en ont.  Certains sont meme devenus esclaves de ce petit appareil.  Mon personnage semble bien concentre en tous cas.

I don t have an i-phone yet but most people I know do have one of those gadgets.  I shoudn t call them gadgets because they  are a useful tool now but some do spend their days texting and awaiting calls.  This man does look concentrated enough.

Day 10 - The poet

Un peu torturé comme dessin, mais j'aime beaucoup les crayons.  J'ai essayé de rendre un peu du personnage de Leonard Cohen , un de nos grands poètes. J'aime beaucoup l''interprète et ses textes sont toujours très émouvants.

Too many lines I'm afraid but I can hardly drop my crayons when I'm working.  I tried my hand at  Leonard Cohen, one of our great poets. I love his intensity and his poems are very touching. 

Day 9 - Young woman

La belle surprise!  J'ai acheté du papier TerraSkin , quelque chose de tout à fait nouveau pour moi.  Je me suis follement amusée à faire ce que j'aime le mieux, c'est-à-dire dessiner.  J'ai hâte de répéter l'expérience, car je n'ai encore aucune idée de tout ce qu'on peut faire avec ce type de papier.  C'est très excitant.
( J'ai fait une base à partir d'une couche acrylique très diluée couleur rose beige et du gris par endroit, ensuite  ne fois sec, j'ai dessiné avec différents types de crayon, terracota, gris  foncé et noir. Je n'ai  utilisé aucune gomme à effacer)

What a nice surprise!  I bought some TerraSkin paper, something quite new for me.  I had a wonderful time doing what I like best, that is drawing.  I can't wait to renew the experience, I have no idea of all the things we can do with that type of paper.  Pretty exciting!
( For this one, I applied some acrylic color kind of a pink beige and some gray very diluted.  Once dried, I drew with different types of crayons, some terracota, dark gray and black.  I didn't use any eraser)

Day 8 - A french singer

Pour un peintre, un essai avec un personnage connu est toujours un défi.  Est-ce qu'on va le reconnaître ou non?  Voici Florent Pagny, un chanteur français que j'admire profondément de par ses interprétations et son charme tout simple.  Je suis une vraie fan.

A try at a popular face is always a big challenge for a painter.  Will people recognize him or not?  Here's Florent Pagny, a french singer I admire because of his sincere interpretations and his charisma.  I'm a big fan.

Day 7 - Velvety red

J'en profite aujourd'hui pour peindre quelque chose de rouge.  D'ailleurs je le dis souvent, c'est une couleur qui me rends joyeuse.  Ici, la fleur est une recette éprouvée d'un rouge veloutée, préparée à partir d'une goutte de RougeNaphtal Clair, mélangé avec un soupçon d'Alizarin Crimson et d'un rien de Blanc hivernal. Mais, n'importe blanc fera l'affaire. :)

Today, I felt like painting something red!  It always puts me in a good mood, it's a lively color.  Here, the flower is made from a special recipe, a blob of Naphtol Red Light mixed with  a splash of  Permanent Alizarin Crimson and a drop of Winter White, but any white will do the job. :)

Une tentative à peindre Enya , une chanteuse que j'aime beauoup.  Ce n'est pas tout à fait çà, mais bon, j'ai fini de peindre pour aujourd'hui.

Day 5 - Happy

J'aime beaucoup les chapeaux malgré que je n'en porte pas souvent.  Les anciens chapeaux surtout, cloche et compagnie.  Ici, cette jeune femme aux yeux verts m'a l'air bien contente.  Ce doit être une  belle journée!

I've always liked hats, even if I don't wear them very often. Specially the old models.  Here this young woman looks pretty happy.  It must be a lovely day.

Day 4 - Osteospermum

Quel triste nom pour une si belle fleur.  Elle fleurit tout l'été au jardin et le centre ressemble à de petits bijoux.

What a sad name for such a beautiful thing. It flowers all summer long without any effort on my part.  The center part looks like jewels

Day 3 - Curious

Ce n'est pas toujours un succès, mais j'y mets beaucoup d'energie.  Un visage avec du caractère, beaucoup de charme et dénote plein de curiosité.

It's not always a success, but I'm working hard at it.  This  face is simply charming, lots of character and I can feel a lot of curiosity.

Day 2 - Adventurous

J'ai réussi à faire quelques sketches à l'avance pour être prête à peindre chaque matin.  Celle-ci,  c'est l'aventuriere, heureuse et bien dans sa peau. Un plaisir de peindre son couvre-chef en fourrure.

I've managed to draw a few sketches and make sure I'm having something ready to paint everyday.  This one is the adventuress, well satisfied with herself. A fun thing to paint the furry hat.

 Le but de l'exercice est de devenir à l'aise avec le portrait.  Réussir à montrer un peu l'àme, l'essence de la personne. Celle-ci a du caractère, elle est vraiment prête à tout,

The idea is to get more comfortable with portraits. Being able to show the real person beneath..  This one is strong and courageous, she's open to everything.

Getting ready

Je mets en place les derniers préparatifs pour participer demain au Defi de Leslie Saeta, 30 peintures en 30 jours.  Je trouve que c'est une excellente façon de passer à travers Janvier rapidement et en accomplissant quelque chose d'agréable. Pour ce défi, j'y mettrai de nouvelles couleurs, ferai face à de nouveaux visages intéressants, des figures connues et moins connues, des fleurs aussi pour me permettre de restocker ma provision de cartes de souhaits et quelques surprises peut-être!

I'm almost ready to face Leslie Saeta's Challenge of 30 paintings in 30 days.  I think it's an ideal time of the year to paint and slide through January quickly.  For this challenge, I will be trying new colors,  face new people, interesting faces, paint flowers to renew my disappearing stock of greeting cards and maybe a few surprises.

A tuque, a scarf and what else?

Cette jeune fille a déjà une bonne partie de ce qu'il lui faut pour passer l'hiver au chaud.  Bien sûr, il lui faut encore un manteau, des gants ou mitaines, etc .  Mais, c'est un début! Préparé sur fonds aquarelle et terminé avec acrylique.

This young girl has already most of what she needs to spend a comfortable winter.  Well, not everything, there's still a coat missing, gloves, etc.  But it's a beginning!  Started this work as a waterpainting and finished with acrylic.

Flowers and company

Cette toile ressemble beaucoup aux scènes de ces jours-ci.  Je lis, je peins des fleurs et j'apprends toujours.  La température s'y prête bien, puisqu'il pleut souvent, la lumière se fait rare et les jours sont courts.  Mais, on se prépare quand même pour Noël qui arrivera bientôt.

This painting looks a lot like my days recently.  I read, I paint flowers and  I am still learning.  The weather is perfect for these occupations, it rains often, there is  less light and days are shorter.
But, we are slowly getting ready for Christmas.

Ce n'est pas toujours facile de trouver un modèle pour le portrait! Demandez à Margarita!  Les amis parfois sont d'accord en principe, mais quand vient le temps..oups on se défile.  Hé oui, il faut du courage!   Voici C. avec un air songeur, anxieux.

It's not always easy to find a model for a portrait.  Just ask Margarita!  Friends also are usually willing but when the time comes,...oups, no picture in sight.  Of course, it takes some guts.  But here's C.   looking thoughtful and a little anxious.

Je crois que cette peinture est terminée.  Elle sera exposée ( avec une autre ) à la prochaine Exposition des Fêtes de notre Atelier de peinture en Décembre.  Quant  à cette petite fleur barbouillée ce matin, c'est pour une bonne amie!  Prochain défi, une autre scène d'automne ou de neige.  Ou les deux!!!

I think this painting is all done .  It will be exhibited in the Hall of our Culturel Center with many others. Our Atelier hosts that Exhibition in December. It's always a great event.  And this morning I hurried to paint this little flower for a good friend.  Next challenge, another landscape picturing fall or winter.  Or maybe both!

Cette semaine, j'ai marché dans les feuilles, ramassé des feuilles et observé l'automne qui se transforme rapidement à cause d'une première neige qui nous a tous pris de court. J'ai magasiné pour une nouvelle étagère suffisamment grande pour loger tout mon fourbis. C'est quasiment à l'ordre maintenant, voyons voir combien de temps çà va durer! Une nouvelle peinture à l'acrylique se développe sur le thème de la première neige. ( à suivre )

This last week, I walked in the dry leaves , filled a few plastic bags with them and observed automn transform itself quickly with a first snow.  I went shopping for a new shelve, large enough to fit my whole paraphernalia,  Everything's clean for the moment, now let's see  how long will it last! A new acrylic painting  is  on the way too.

I love automn and wouldn't mind if it lasted a few months more.  I painted this acrylic landscape from the comfort of my studio and then I went for a walk, it was a glorious day.

J'adore l'automne et je ne serais aucunement déçue si la saison se poursuivait encore quelques mois.  J'ai peint cette toile à l'acrylique dans le confort de mon studio et j'ai fait une promenade par la suite,  histoire de sentir l'automne de plus près.

I also spent a few hours  drawing and painting this lady.  Ha the wonders of dry pastel,  above all when they  re new color sticks.

Et j ai passe quelques heures a dessiner et crayonner avec mes batons secs de couleur.  Ha les merveilles du pastel, surtout quand ce sont de nouvelles craies!...

Days are shorter already and cool temperature are setting in.  Time to get used to it and splash some colors ! 

Les jours raccourcissent  et le froid s installe tranquillement.  Rien a y faire,  sauf mettre de la couleur dans ces jours gris!

I  ve used a picture of a good friend to draw and paint this one. Not that resembling but the personnage is there and I experimented freely.

J ai utilise la photo d un bon ami pour dessiner et peindre cette peinture. Ce n est pas trop ressemblant mais le personnage est la et la belle affaire, c est que j ai pu experimenter librement.

Deja la fin de septembre!  J essaie de reprendre une certaine routine et recommencer a dessiner et peindre, apres un ete de paresse monstrueuse.  Mais  ca fait du bien de temps en temps,  une periode de repos ( sans compter que mon ordi est tombe en panne a deux reprises cet ete).  Bon automne!

Already the end of september!  I m trying to get back to normal with a certain routine, drawing and painting on a regular basis.  I ve been pretty lazy this last summer, but I feel good and energize. ( My computer helped me also to change rythm by being totally out of service twice.  Now it s in great shape). Good automn to all!
