Day 30 - The vase

C'est la dernière journée du Défi de Leslie Saeta de 30 peintures en 30 jours. Après avoir peint plusieurs fleurs, j'ai pensé pourquoi ne pas montrer le vase qui va avec!  Voilà c'est fait!  Demain, je présenterai une mini-exposition des oeuvres complétées durant Janvier.

It's the last day of the Challenge of 30 paintings in 30 days by Leslie Saeta.  After painting many  flowers in a row, I thought why not show the vase that goes with them!  Here it is!  Tomorrow, I will put up a small exhibition of  the work completed in January.

Day 29 - Dark iris

 Une deuxième toile avec une iris à l'acrylique dans des tons de  violet,  mauve et du rose. Le fonds est à l'aquarelle dans des tons chauds, alors que la fleur c'est tout le contraire.

A second painting with an iris in tones of violet, mauve and some pink.  The background is in much warmer colors done with  water painting.

Day 28 - Iris and her new skirt

Je n'ai pu résister à cette fleur que je trouve majestueuse et j'ai pris beaucoup de plaisir à la peindre.  Je la surnomme " Iris et sa nouvelle jupe ", mais elle a sûrement un nom plus savant.  On dirait qu'elle nous fait un beau salut!

I couldn't resist  this spectacular flower and I had to paint it.  I named her Iris and her new skirt, but of course she must have a more scientific name . She's taking a bow, don't you think?

Day 27 - A thank you rose

Day 26 - Geraniums

Une autre peinture de terminée!  J'ai toujours aimé les géraniums et j'en garde un dans la maison toute l'année.
Another painting done!  I've always loved geraniums and I keep one inside the house all year round.

Day 25 - Pink lilac

Cette branche de lilas rosé est peinte dans des tonalités froides.  J'ai bien ajouté de petites touches de vert jaunâtre ici et là, mais pas assez pour changer l'atmosphère de la toile.

This pink lilac branch is definitely in cool tones.  I did add small hints of yellowish green here and there, but not enough to change the overall look.

Day 24 - Sunny flowers

Il y a quelques années, un ami m'a donné des semences de "girasol".  Je n'avais aucune idée du genre de fleurs , j'étais juste contente du cadeau et de la surprise de les voir pousser.  C'était de belles grosses fleurs connues ici sous le nom de tournesols ou encore fleurs soleil.  L'été dernier, elles ont poussé comme jamais et à l'automne, j' ai remarqué que les oiseaux raffolaient de ce nouveau mets.  Tout un changement comparé à leur diète habituelle!
A few years back, a friend gave me some " girasol" seeds.  I had no idea what kind of flower they were,  I was just happy about the gift and the surprise to see them grow.  It became what I've always known as sunflower or tournesol in french.  Last summer, we got plenty of those and when fall began, I noticed birds were just crazy about the change in their regular diet.

Day 23 - Gerbera Lollipop

Voici la gerbera!  L'été, il y a toujours deux ou trois de ces fleurs dans le jardin parce qu'elle fleurissent tout l'été et ne demandent peu ou pas d'entretien.  En la dessinant, elle me faisait penser à un gros suçon et une fois peinte,encore plus!

Here's a gerbera, an annuel flower I like  because she flowers all summer long without any special care.  I always have a few of them in the garden.  While I was drawing, it reminded me of a big lollipop and once finished,  I couldn't get that  image out of my mind.

Day 22 - A scent from the garden

C'est le temps de peindre quelques fleurs pour renouveler ma provision de cartes d'anniversaires.  Les plus jolies seront imprimées et les autres joueront le rôle d'exercices.  J'ai l'embarrras du choix , car à ce temps-ci de l'année toutes les fleurs du jardin sont invitantes.

It's time to paint flowers  and renew my anniversary cards for the year.  Some of those will be printed and the others will play a good role as exercices.  There are so many varieties to choose from because at this time of the year, all flowers look pretty inviting to me. 

Day 21 - Sweet little face

Quand je dessine plusieurs jours de suite, j'oublie quasiment que j'ai des tubes de peinture aussi.  Alors, aujourd'hui, j'ai renoué avec l'acrylique sur feuille tera skin.  Beaucoup de plaisir à peindre cette petite nièce qui est maintenant une vraie demoiselle!

When I draw many days in a row, I kind of forget I have some paint tubes in my studio.  So, today, I'm reconnecting with acrylic on tera skin paper. A real pleasure painting this little niece who's now becoming so tall!

Day 20 The hair brooch

Encore un personnage avec de longs cheveux  et  il reste encore 10 jours avant la fin du Défi.  Peut-être y aura-t-il encore des cheveux à l 'honneur!

Another painting with long hair!  And there are still 10 days left of that Challenge!  Maybe there will be more hair in the near future!

Day 19 - Something blue

La création n'est pas toujours facile. Aujourd'hui quelque chose d'un peu différent en jouant avec les couleurs que l'aquarelle a bien voulu laissé tomber sur ma toile. Une couleur que le ciel d'ici s'amuse à nous cacher ces temps-ci!

Creating is not always easy.  Today something a little different, I'm  playing with the color blue appearing on my working paper. A color we're not seing much these days in our sky!

Day 18 - A dear friend

Voici le portrait d'une très bonne amie!  J'ai bien peur de ne pas lui rendre justice.  Elle est beaucoup plus jolie.  Mais, je pourrai la retravailler une fois le Défi terminé.

Here's the portrait of a vey dear friend of mine.  She is much more good looking, but I can always  work on it once the Challenge is over.

Day 17 - Make a wish

Au début, j'ai fait un fond à l'aquarelle et dessiné avec mes crayons, mais le résultat est rapidement devenu insatisfaisant.  Il manquait de " punch ".  Je me suis croisée les doigts et j'ai ajouté de la peinture acrylique, beaucoup d'acrylique en espérant pour le mieux.  Ha que j'aimerais avoir de longs cheveux comme elle. Le titre de la toile provient de là!  :)

It started with a watercolor wash and crayons, but the result was just too messy.  I crossed my fingers and  finally opted for acrylic, a lot of acrylic, hoping for the best. Ah, I'd love to have that kind of hair, long and tangled.  Thus the title ! :)

Day 16 - The age of Innocence

J'ai  eu tellement de plaisir à dessiner cette petite fille!  C'est une de mes petites nièces qui a grandi depuis. A cet âge, on a encore tout à apprendre.

I had such a good time drawing this little girl.  She's one of my nieces who's grown since ..  At that age, there are so many things to learn .

Day 15 - A quick study

45 minutes pour étudier un oeil, mais j'aurais pu y passer y passer des heures.  Les yeux en disent tellement long sur quelqu'un.

Only 45 minutes to study the eye, but of course I could have spend many hours.  The eyes can reveal so much about a person.

Day 13 - The pink scarf

Ceci a commencé avec le portrait d'une amie, mais en cours de route, le visage a pris un air amérindien. Aimant bien le résultat, j'ai amplifié certains traits et finalement gardé la nouvelle version. . Il me semble qu'elle a du vécu.

It started with the portrait of a friend, but the drawing was looking more and more  like an indian.  I decided to amplify certain details and keep the latest version..  She seems to have led a hard life.

Day 12 - Sketch of Mr R

Si peu de temps pour dessiner aujourdhui!  Il y a des jours comme ça...  J'ai décidé d'utiliser le  fusain, chose que je ne maîtrise pas et de faire un sketch rapide en me concentrant juste sur le visage, surtout les yeux.

So little time for drawing today! ....  I made a sketch  using some charcoal, something I'm not so familiar with and concentrate on the face, mostly the eyes.  

Day 11 - Texto, texto!

Je n ai pas encore de telephone intelligent, mais la plupart des gens que je connais en ont.  Certains sont meme devenus esclaves de ce petit appareil.  Mon personnage semble bien concentre en tous cas.

I don t have an i-phone yet but most people I know do have one of those gadgets.  I shoudn t call them gadgets because they  are a useful tool now but some do spend their days texting and awaiting calls.  This man does look concentrated enough.

Day 10 - The poet

Un peu torturé comme dessin, mais j'aime beaucoup les crayons.  J'ai essayé de rendre un peu du personnage de Leonard Cohen , un de nos grands poètes. J'aime beaucoup l''interprète et ses textes sont toujours très émouvants.

Too many lines I'm afraid but I can hardly drop my crayons when I'm working.  I tried my hand at  Leonard Cohen, one of our great poets. I love his intensity and his poems are very touching. 

Day 9 - Young woman

La belle surprise!  J'ai acheté du papier TerraSkin , quelque chose de tout à fait nouveau pour moi.  Je me suis follement amusée à faire ce que j'aime le mieux, c'est-à-dire dessiner.  J'ai hâte de répéter l'expérience, car je n'ai encore aucune idée de tout ce qu'on peut faire avec ce type de papier.  C'est très excitant.
( J'ai fait une base à partir d'une couche acrylique très diluée couleur rose beige et du gris par endroit, ensuite  ne fois sec, j'ai dessiné avec différents types de crayon, terracota, gris  foncé et noir. Je n'ai  utilisé aucune gomme à effacer)

What a nice surprise!  I bought some TerraSkin paper, something quite new for me.  I had a wonderful time doing what I like best, that is drawing.  I can't wait to renew the experience, I have no idea of all the things we can do with that type of paper.  Pretty exciting!
( For this one, I applied some acrylic color kind of a pink beige and some gray very diluted.  Once dried, I drew with different types of crayons, some terracota, dark gray and black.  I didn't use any eraser)

Day 8 - A french singer

Pour un peintre, un essai avec un personnage connu est toujours un défi.  Est-ce qu'on va le reconnaître ou non?  Voici Florent Pagny, un chanteur français que j'admire profondément de par ses interprétations et son charme tout simple.  Je suis une vraie fan.

A try at a popular face is always a big challenge for a painter.  Will people recognize him or not?  Here's Florent Pagny, a french singer I admire because of his sincere interpretations and his charisma.  I'm a big fan.

Day 7 - Velvety red

J'en profite aujourd'hui pour peindre quelque chose de rouge.  D'ailleurs je le dis souvent, c'est une couleur qui me rends joyeuse.  Ici, la fleur est une recette éprouvée d'un rouge veloutée, préparée à partir d'une goutte de RougeNaphtal Clair, mélangé avec un soupçon d'Alizarin Crimson et d'un rien de Blanc hivernal. Mais, n'importe blanc fera l'affaire. :)

Today, I felt like painting something red!  It always puts me in a good mood, it's a lively color.  Here, the flower is made from a special recipe, a blob of Naphtol Red Light mixed with  a splash of  Permanent Alizarin Crimson and a drop of Winter White, but any white will do the job. :)

Day 5 - Happy

J'aime beaucoup les chapeaux malgré que je n'en porte pas souvent.  Les anciens chapeaux surtout, cloche et compagnie.  Ici, cette jeune femme aux yeux verts m'a l'air bien contente.  Ce doit être une  belle journée!

I've always liked hats, even if I don't wear them very often. Specially the old models.  Here this young woman looks pretty happy.  It must be a lovely day.

Quel triste nom pour une si belle fleur.  Elle fleurit tout l'été au jardin et le centre ressemble à de petits bijoux.
